Cycling is a great way to enjoy yourself, and be at one with nature and the road. You can ride anytime and make it part of your usual activities by commuting or shopping – and you’ll get fit for free. Being fit helps you live longer and feel more alive. Cycling can be fast or slow, with friends or on your own: it’s complete freedom. Cycling can build muscle, reduce fat and increase your heart’s capability. You can challenge yourself and your friends, monitor your goals and celebrate when you reach them. And, out on the road, you’ll meet the friendliest bunch of people you could want.
But any cyclist will really say that the sheer joy of the silence of the road, unencumbered by the noise and windows of a car is just the best way to explore the countryside.
Ride for a Reason is designed by some of Hertfordshire’s most enthusiastic cyclists who know the roads well. It’s an organised way for anybody to enjoy a day in some of Hertfordshire’s nicest countryside with lots of other people who ride bikes. There’s no pressure, no racing, and the routes we’ve designed do their best to avoid busy roads. To make sure it goes OK, the route is very well signposted, and there are marshalls at all key points. There are checkpoints en-route with refreshments and experts if you have a problem and if it all goes wrong, people are on hand to get you back to base. Once you’ve finished, back at base you’ll find tea and cake to finish off what we hope will have been a fantastic day out.
