A great day out

Ride4aReason offers four routes: the 25 and 33 mile routes are ideal for active children to participate in or adults just getting back on the bike. The 44 miles and 64 miles are available for those who already ride regularly or are fitter.
  • If you rode the 44 mile route last year - why not go for the 64?
  • Why not get a group together with some friends?

The routes follow some of the quietest lanes of Hertfordshire and go through some of the prettiest places - places you might not otherwise go to.

The routes will be clearly signposted but it's a good idea to carry a map: OS Landranger map 166 covers the whole of both routes. Also, at points along the route, although not at every junction, there will be a Verulam CC marshal.

If you didn't know it already, you'll find that Hertfordshire is not flat! All the courses are undulating but only on the 64 mile route is there a hill where you might really have to get off and walk.

These rides are a challenge and if you don't ride regularly then you'll need to prepare. Information on how to get ready for Ride4aReason is on the Get Ready page.

The HQ is at the start of the sports facilities of St. Albans School just north of St Albans, near Old Albanians Sports Club. There is plenty of parking, changing rooms and showers if you want them.

Last year's event was very popular so it's a good idea to register in advance - you'll be on your way much quicker. After confirming your details, or registering if you haven't done so in advance, you can depart.

All riders pass through checkpoints where you can refill your bottle, stock up on energy bars and fruit; basic first aid (self administered) and bike assistance is available. The 44- and 64-mile routes pass through three checkpoints, the 33-mile route through two and the 25-mile route through one. Riders on the 25, 33 and 44 mile routes part company from those on the 64 mile route immediately after the first checkpoint.

At the HQ, you'll get your final card stamp. Your time doesn't matter so just relax. There'll be tea, coffee, cake and soft drink refreshments.

You'll also be able to meet members of Verulam CC and see whether club cycling is for you.

And if you enjoy Ride4aReason and riding further, why not come for a ride with Verulam CC. You'd be welcome on the following Sunday, or any other Sunday for that matter. Follow the link above for more information.
